“Jazzy...earthy...sassy...while nature inspires and tradition guides, it is Endo’s relentless experimentations that jolt. Music… that comes from the spirit”.
(Nadir Magazine, Tokyo)
Award-winning master Kenny Endo celebrates his 35th year of taiko (Japanese drum) in 2010 with a performance tour featuring an amazing group of master musicians from Japan and the US. Strong traditional roots inform his playing—he was the first foreigner to be honored with a “natori” (stage name*) in Japanese classical drumming. Yet his prodigious talent expands the realm of taiko, with a command of jazz and intricate rhythms that make him a leader in contemporary percussion and a favorite with audiences.
In 2012, he joins with tabla master Abhijit Banerjee and renowned Latin percussionist John Santos, for Rhythm Central: Taiko, Tablas, and Timbales, featuring 3 world premieres of work composed by each of the three, with roots in each genre and instrumentation of all three cultures.
35th Anniversary Tour: October-November 2010
Rhythm Central: Taiko, Tablas, and Timbales: 2011-12
